Due to the very mild winter, the vegetative awakening of plants was very early, which normally bodes well for agriculture. Unfortunately, this was not the case this year: a spring frost in 2020 caused severe damage to young shoots, with a volume loss of about 30 percent and a delay in the vegetative cycle. A warm and dry May helped the plants recover well from the cold shock, fortunately. June also brought an unstable phase with frequent rainfall. July was dry again with high temperatures, which even increased so much in August that the vegetative process came to a standstill. After the first rains in September, the plants resumed the ripening phase, which lasted until mid-October, having been repeatedly interrupted by rainfall.
