In Montepulciano, frost damage to buds was less than in La Madonnina, due to the higher altitude of the vineyards. Despite the lack of rainfall, vegetation progressed well and the vines tolerated water stress very well until August. Vegetation periods were even shortened, which led to an early harvest. This was also thanks to Santavenere's deep and fertile soils. As in Chianti, the transition to the "Gujot" growing system paid off here: the quantity and quality of the harvest were confirmed at the good levels of recent years.
